Just one short year ago during the spring of 2014, Aunt Pearlie Sue & The Gullah Kinfolk began the audio recording for their latest project “Circle Unbroken: A Gullah Journey from Africa to America.”  The motion picture was filmed entirely in Beaufort, SC and the Sea Islands.   The film is partially a musical, with traditional Gullah sound, vocals and flavor prominently featured.

The Gullah Kinfolk, founder Anita Singleton-Prather, and producer Ron Small spent several weeks at Charleston Sound to record and complete the music and other overdubs for the film.  The film premiered with positive reviews on July 19th, 2014 at USC Beaufort and was soon picked up by national broadcasting station PBS.   Having the film picked up by PBS is a major accomplishment for the group, enabling them to bring the rich history of Gullah to a much broader national audience.

The film will premiere on PBS on October 5th, 2015 at 7 PM EST.  Be sure to tune in!
